 Phyo Phyo Kyaw Zin

Chemistry Graduate Student, NC State, Raleigh NC

B.A. in Computer Science and Chemistry, Berea College, Berea, KY

What is your current research project in the Fourches Lab?

I am currently working on two projects: PKS_Enumerator for polyketides and virtual screening of Wlba.

Where did you go for undergrad? What research projects did you work on there?

I went to Berea College, KY and graduated with B.A. in Chemistry and Computer Science.

I worked on DMS (Dashboard Management System) with Dr. Heggen for the Sustainability Department of Berea College as part of my internship. I also did research with Dr. Smithson on lead analysis in soil which resulted from leaded paint and auto exhaust from leaded gasoline.

What made you decide to pursue a PhD in chemistry?

I want to be a research scientist one day, and I have a thirst for research, programming and chemistry. So, pursuing a PhD in Chemistry where I can work with computers is a like a dream come true.

What has been the most challenging part of the program so far?

I would say ... understanding the expectations of certain things like TA assignments, CUME, classes, etc. But as time goes, things get better.

What is your favorite food?

Kite Kyay Kite (especially the one my mom makes). Below is a picture of Kite Kyay Kite with rice.
